Marlon Innis BA, BD MA., is a citizen of Guyana. Guyana, is the only English-speaking country in South America. He is pursuing a Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling at Loyola University Chicago. At the moment he is a Parish Counselor at Ascension Church in Oak Park.
Marlon comes with a unique set of skills comprising of 25 years in religious and ten years as an ordained minister. He has gained experience in journeying with persons from varying and religious beliefs. Additionally, he has gained skills as a hospital and prison chaplain.
Marlon’s approach to counseling is holistic. It includes emotional, spiritual, and psychological accompaniment. He is of the view that we encounter persons on the service level, which only give us a glimpse of the individual. He compares a service level approach to an iceberg where only a small portion of the person is observable. His holistic approach to dealing with people is rooted in his spirituality and religious ideals.
Marlon’s religious ideals come from his Jesuit formation, where he journeyed with persons who are searching for a deeper meaning in life. He listens, affirms, empathizes and is non-judgmental to whomever he encounter. His focus is on the goodness of each person and their desire to achieve a balance in their lives.
