Maribeth Howell, OP, PhD, STD, is a Dominican Sister of Adrian, Michigan. She completed her doctoral studies at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, in Belgium. Maribeth is also a certified spiritual director.
Maribeth was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago. She entered the Dominican Sisters of Adrian in 1967. After completing her BS in Special Education at Wayne State University of Detroit, she was invited to teach at the Detroit School for the Deaf, where she had done her student teaching.
In addition to having taught Hebrew Scriptures at Kenrick Seminary, in St. Louis, Missouri; St. Mary Seminary, In Wickliffe, Ohio; and Aquinas Institute of Theology, in St. Louis, Missouri, where she is professor emerita of biblical studies, Maribeth has also taught and given workshops in various parishes and dioceses. Maribeth also served as Director of Formation for her Congregation. Currently, she is the Coordinator of the Together Program, a collaborative endeavor between Catholic Theological Union and the Religious Formation Conference.
Maribeth’s writings have appeared in several journals and edited works, as well as in At Home with the Word, The Bible Today, and Emmanuel Magazine. She is the translator of the Psalms in Dominican Praise, a prayerbook used by over eighteen Dominican women
