Meet Our Counseling Interns

Amy E. Fox, M.A. is a 5th year doctoral student at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology and a full-time Clinical Psychology Doctoral Intern at the Claret Center. She holds a M.A. in Clinical Psychology from ISPP. Amy has a background in both psychological and theological studies; she earned B.A.s in both Psychology and Theology from Calvin College and studied theology at Princeton Theological Seminary before shifting her focus to making a difference on an individual level through a career in psychology.

Amy has several years experience in providing therapy services to individuals and couples, as well as in psychological assessment. Amy is committed to authenticity of experience, and to wholeness in mind, body, and spirit. Her approach as a therapist is grounded in attending to and honoring all aspects of embodied experience. Amy operates from a proven, health-focused clinical approach which helps empower clients to use emotional wisdom and discover strength, grace, compassion, joy, and health along the journey of self-discovery.

Amy Shih, is pursuing a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School. Prior to transitioning into counseling, Amy had over four years of international experience in China, working in management, leadership positions, and publication. More than providing the team of people Amy helped lead with inspiration, encouragement, and direction, she took an active interest in the impact that the daily challenges in life can have on the mind and spirit. “The most valuable lesson that I have learned from working with people from diverse ethnic backgrounds is that we are all deeply interconnected and have a strong desire to find meaning and purpose in our lives.” With a positive and existential approach to therapy, Amy focuses on the whole person—strengths, weaknesses, values, resources, and possibilities. “I help clients discover their signature strengths, which are the building blocks to one’s authentic self.” More than anything else, Amy seeks to help clients cultivate mindful living and inner peace.

Sarah Hraha, is a third year Psy. D. student at the Adler School of Professional Psychology.  Having been a teacher for over 20 years, this is a second career for Sarah.  Over the course of her career, Sarah has taught children in kindergarten through 6th grades in the Chicago Public School system and as a Montessori teacher in privately owned schools.  As she moves into her new profession, Sarah is excited to work with children and families as well as adolescents, adults, and couples in a manner that supports their personal growth and move them toward their full potential.  Sarah believes that many of us get stuck in patterns of mistaken beliefs that cause us to see ourselves, others, and the world through these lenses.  Consequently, many of us get stuck in cycles of shame, blame, victimhood, and self-destructive or addictive behaviors that lead to a life of dissatisfaction and leave us wondering, "Is this all there is?"  She feels that through the therapeutic process and utilizing specific techniques it is possible to challenge and shift these limiting beliefs and ultimately live a life of satisfaction and fulfillment.  Through her own journey of personal growth and development, Sarah has learned the importance of the therapeutic process in helping her to stay on her own path of learning and growing.  She strongly believes in the power of "knowing thy self" and feels that the foundation of this process is through identification of emotions and learning to communicate more effectively with others.  The therapeutic relationship provides a safe environment in which to develop these skills and come closer to one's potential.

Miriam Wolfe
Difficulties and challenges are an inevitable part in the life of every person. Sometimes we are able to more or less smoothly negotiate these bumps in the road on our own, at other times we find ourselves stuck or bound up emotionally and spiritually, and we needsome help sorting it out to get back on track. Whether the problems are long standing from childhood or a response to current situations there is always hope that greater self awareness will lead to better functioning and more joy in life. In my practice I seek to provide a warm, accepting, safe environment in which we can collaborate moving forward in all areas of life.

Miriam is a post-graduate intern at Claret Center serving the parishes of St. Teresa of Avila and St. Josaphat. . She is a licensed professional counselor. I am Mario Javier Delgado from Venezuela, South America.  In 1990, I became a lay minister and I have been involved in various ministries in the church. The following reflects my experience and dedication to Jesus’ ministry: Hispanic Ministry, Social Justice, Rural Ministry, Migrant Ministry, Religious Education, Young Adults and Youth Ministry, Vocation Ministry and Pastoral Formation. In 2008, I became a Lay MSC and I assumed the responsibility to collaborate with the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart in the Life's Healing Spirituality and the Spirituality of the Sacred Heart. In the Spirituality of the Heart, as a Lay Missionary of the Sacred Heart, we have a devotion we call, "Follow the Way of the Heart". It focuses on seven specific virtues: Adoration, Love, Gratitude, Union with Jesus, Sacrifice, Petition and Compassion. Following the Way of the Heart is a way for us to increase our capacity to love and to allow God's love to transform us. I am called to be compassionate and to be a companion for others. The accompanying process and the guiding and discernment process are the key areas of my spiritual journey. My prayer is to ask the Lord to open the eyes of my heart to see his compassionate love and unseal my lips so that I may taste once again the Bread of Life and be refreshed and renewed. The Lord allows me to see that you are God, the one God, in whom all of creation rejoices. Amen.

"You are my beloved, Son. With you I am well pleased." This is the journey I have been on since childhood: to perceive this, to appropriate this, to shepherd others into this reality. What a journey thus far: language training, traveling and living outside the United States, an early stint in the military, seminary study and
ordination, spiritual direction, therapy, centering prayer, friends and loved ones, a four-month paid sabbatical leave, new insights and growing edges. I look forward to learning from and through one another in the coming months.
