Desiree Misanko, MA. When we experience life stressors, emotional upheaval, discontent in their life path, or trauma, it is normal for us to feel confused, distressed or that our lives are unraveling. My passion as a counselor is in helping with healing through a collaborative working alliance. A process that offers support towards finding, and strengthening a healthy perception of self, and increasing feelings of peacefulness, wholeness, and safety in one’s life, while accomplishing the therapeutic goals. I recognize that no single approach to the healing process is right for every individual, and so I am trained in a range of modalities, including Attachment Theory, Substance Abuse Interventions, Play Therapy, Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral, and Humanistic Existential approaches.

My educational background includes an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Chicago, as well as my current work towards a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. This education adds to my B.A. in Psychology, and Substance Abuse Counseling, from the University of Nevada, Reno. My experience includes working with Third Culture Kids, such as Missionary Children and Adults, as well as the presentation and use of Geek Culture in Clinical Practice.
